Stacy quickly showered and dressed, choosing a black wrap dress and pumps. She had called her boss earlier and took the day off. It was no way she was going to work under all of her stress. Mr. Milner had agreed and had given her the day off. He was a kind old man with brown skin and toffee colored eyes. Unlike a lot of her co-workers, his smile always reached his eyes. He was in his late fifties and happily married to a retired teacher. His hair was salt and pepper gray and rarely did she ever see him without a shirt and tie. He was somewhat of a father figure to her and she always enjoyed being in his company. She felt a little guilty taking a sick day at such short notice but she had to get to the bottom of all this. Besides, Mr. Milner's birthday was coming up on Friday so she would pick up a gift for him while she was out. She felt better about her plan already. She grabbed her purse from her night stand and rushed down the stairs. She didn't know what time the laboratory opened on Wednesdays. Breakfast would have to wait...
~Mr. Milner~
Jack Milner closed his briefcase, stood up and straighten his tie. He had started this company on his 24th birthday. He didn't have a dime to his name, just a dream and a vision. He had gone far. He had everything a man could ever want in life. He was working in his dream career as a Director at one of the most well-known publishing agency in the state and he made good money. He had married his true love 34 years ago and she was still as beautiful as the first time he laid eyes on her. He never had a daughter but he was blessed with 2 sons. The oldest son, Nathaniel had married and started his own family. However, Tony the youngest son had yet to marry. He wished that he would settle down with a sweet girl like Stacy. He recalled when he first met Stacy. She had come to him fresh out of Junior college. She was a persistent and hard working girl with big lost eyes. There was something missing. Later as their relationship developed he learned that her father had passed away when she was 12yrs old in a fatal car crash. She had witness the accident but never emotionally recovered from it. She was protective of her mother who had turned to alcohol to deal with the lost. Jack had decided to take her under his wing and she had been with the company for quite some time now. She had always confided in him. While he made his way to the conference room for his meeting, he wondered why today she hadn't...

It was 12:30 in the afternoon and he and his partner had already made one drug bust. His partner Mike was like a frat brother to him. He had taken a bullet for him back in September. They normally ordered in for lunch but today they had decided to celebrate. There was a new Hamburger joint that had just opened on Lincoln Street. It wasn't the classiest place but it would do the job. As he turned into the parking lot he spotted the black Lexus sc10 convertible. The driver hurriedly backed into a No Parking Zone area. Justin looked out towards the hamburger joint and then back at the shiny car. He shook his head. "You gotta be kidding me?" Mike got out of the car, stretched and headed towards the front door of the Restaurant. "I'll leave the light work to you. I can't work on an empty stomach." He turned to look at the convertible again before going inside. "Looks like a bougie one to me. I'll order a round of drinks cause it looks like you're gonna need it." He listened on as Mike cracked up on his own joke. Neither Mike nor Justin drank alcohol. It slowed you down. Thinking fast came with the job. Mike always avoided giving women tickets and Justin would rather go up against a drug Lord any day. He got out of the car and looked both ways before crossing the street. Shanadoah women were crazy...

Stacy checked her purse to make sure the letter was inside. She would have it screened for fingerprints. Someone would be sure to help her in the Lab. She was lost deep in thought when she heard a tapping sound on her car window. She looked up and squinted at the tall figure standing beside her door. He wore shades and a agitated expression. Clearly he was handsome. She wished she could see his eyes. She hated cops. Her curiosity wore off and she became annoyed. He rotated his pointing finger, signaling for her to roll down her window. "Yes, officer." she replied. "You do realize that this is a No Parking Zone?" Her heartbeat quickened. She knew that voice. How did she know that voice? She opened the car door and stood in front of him. "Look lady, get back in your car." She took one step backward and lost her balance. The officer reached out and grabbed her just as a vehicle zoomed passed. "Do you have some kind of death wish or something woman?" The officer stared at her behind his shades. "If you don't calm down, I'm taking you down for resisting an officer." She was tired of men calling the shots. In the last 48 hours it seemed that none of them could be trusted. She lifted her foot half way off the ground and kicked him as hard as she could...

Justin doubled over in pain. This was ridiculous. She was beautiful but by far the craziest woman he had ever met...
